Setting up this blog for EDUC 6115

Well, I get more practice with blogging! We just set up one for my daughter who is fundraising to go to Costa Rica this summer, so now Mom gets to follow suit! I'm interested in learning more about this! Lori

  1. OK, now that I read the rest of the assignment for this week, let me respond to that!

The first site I explored is:
    http://ideas.blogs.com/
I was particularly intrigued as the second entry is this blog that discusses eLearning tools was talking about the use of a "LORI" in synchronous learning environments. It will take more time to learn about this, but it certainly did catch my eye. To be honest, I find the content on this site to be a little bit over my head at this point in my exploration of curriculum design, but I am sure as I gain a greater understanding of research in the field and the jargon associated with it, this will become a valuable resource to me as the people post are actual practitioners.

The second site I examined is found at: http://en.wordpress.com/tag/instructional-design/.
I actually found this site easier to use due to the layout of the blog. I found the shortened version of the posts less intimidating and easier to navigate. The subheads gave me an immediate idea if what was being posted might be applicable or not. This is important because the content refers to learning design in all different fields, not just for a high school setting, such as where I work. Thus, while I find the "Learn Trends" conference information might be of value, I found that I would probably skip the "Allergies/Contraindications" post.

The third blog that I have found invaluable is actually one posted by our technology facilitator at our high school entitled "Tech-Able-Teachers." This is found at http://mchscybrary.wordpress.com/. Kellee Hill uses this blog when she goes to conferences, etc. to post her notes on the different sessions she is attending or to provide us with different technology tips, etc. that we need. What I like is that Kellee adds her own take on these ideas that are presented at the workshops, knowing what our technology capacity is, as well as our limitations. Plus, I know that she has been a classroom English teacher, and she is an incredible instructor still as she works with both students and staff in training us on technology. Therefore, she has high credibility with me, and so I value what she posts. The best part is that when she posts something that intrigues me, I have the ability to go to her in person and learn more. Since I'm a hands-on, visual learner, having Kellee show me something is far faster for me than struggling to read through it all. I'd highly recommend you stopping by this site or subscribing.
